Common Bells Palsy Treatments for Pain

July 28th, 2010 by admin

Rather than MSM, a topical cream that you might first want to try on your face for the pain of Bells Palsy, and which has been proven safe and effective in clinical studies for peripheral neuropathy nerve pain, is “Neurogen PN.” It’s manufactured by Origen Biomedicinals and made from Geranium oil and associated botanical oils.  It’s also been reported that Far Infrared Treatments can also help relieve the paralysis, discomfort, pain and ill effects of many patients who suffer with Bell’s Palsy. With FIR treatments, you just aim an FIR lamp at the affected area of bare skin, from about 16 inches away, for 30-60 minutes, 1-3 times daily. Basically it’s a type of moxibustion, which is a Chinese acupuncture procedure of burning herbs over trigger points in the body. However, in this case the heating is done with light.

Some doctors will recommend, as a self-help program of physical therapy, that a patient apply gentle heat to the facial muscles to help reduce any pain, such as using microwavable pads. This is a similar alternative. Doctors commonly suggest moist heat packs, like Thermophore, for sciatica pain but I have not yet heard of it being used for Bell’s Palsy.
