The children’s hospital is a place of both hope and despair, and while parents struggle with these feelings, the children just try to find a way through each day in this artificial environment. My husband and I got permission to donate a complete hornby train set to the ward for the activity/playroom. We took the pieces in, in individual boxes and watched as the children dutifully started opening each one. You could feel the excitement start to build as they recognized the uniqueness of this gift. Conversations became more animated as they wondered what else went with the track and the cars and the scenery. It was a good feeling to know we had brought something positive to a place that so often held such sadness.
