Speed Reading Basics

June 25th, 2010 by admin

The basics of speed reading are easy to explain. It is in the practice that you gain the speed.First, you learn to take in larger chunks of text rather than just read a word at a time. With practice, you can see and read whole sentences at one time. Second, you learn to pick out important parts. Usually you can get the gist of a something by reading the subheadings, the first and last sentence of each paragraph, and anything that is emphasized with italics, bold type and so on. Finally, if you practice forcing yourself to read as fast as possible – even without comprehending what you are reading – you will find that when you later relax and read “normally,” your normal speed has increased.
